GETTING STARTED

How To Start Your ATV

Follow the steps below to prepare and start your new ATV. If the ATV does not start after completing these steps, use the troubleshooting section below.

Your ATV Needs Three Things To Start

Gas

A Spark

Cylinder Compression

Step-by-Step Starting Instructions

1	Add Fuel Using an approved gas container, add at least a ½ gallon of gasoline to the fuel tank.

Charge the Battery

Access the battery by removing the seat or through the appropriate battery compartment. Make sure the battery is charged and maintaining approximately 12 volts. The original instructions recommend trickle charging at 2 amps for at least 2 hours after receiving and unpacking the unit.

3	Turn the Run Switch On Turn the run switch, sometimes called the kill switch, to the ON position.

4	Turn the Key On Insert the ignition key and turn it to the ON position.

5	Use the Choke for a Cold Engine Some ATVs have a choke lever located on the carburetor. Other models use a thumb-operated choke control on the left side of the handlebar. Follow the specific controls for your ATV and use the choke when starting a cold engine.

6	Apply the Brake Squeeze the appropriate brake lever. Depending on the ATV, one of the brake levers may need to be applied before the starter will operate.

7	Press the Starter Button Press the starter button, usually located on the right-hand side of the handlebar and accessible with your thumb, to start the engine.

After the Engine Starts

When starting the ATV for the first time, the original instructions recommend opening the throttle a couple of times to help fuel reach the carburetor and jets. Once the engine fires, give it a little throttle and allow it to idle until it warms up.

After the engine warms up, turn off the choke. Slowly ride away and check that the tires are properly inflated and that the vehicle systems are operating correctly.

Before riding: Make sure the brakes, throttle, steering, tires and other controls are operating properly.

ATV STARTUP TROUBLESHOOTING

ATV Won't Start?

If your ATV fails to start after following the starting procedure, check the following systems.

1	Fuel To check whether fuel is reaching the carburetor, the original instructions recommend checking the fuel line at the carburetor. Contact the TX PowerSports service team for further troubleshooting assistance if needed.

Spark

If you need to check for spark at the spark plug, first remove the spark plug wire by gripping the boot near the plug. The original procedure describes placing a suitable plug into the boot and grounding the plug against the engine to observe the spark while the starter is operated.

Safety Warning: Ignition systems generate high voltage. Do not hold the metal portion of the spark plug or touch exposed electrical contacts during a spark test. If you are not comfortable performing this test, have a qualified technician perform it.

If there is no spark, check that the ignition coil wiring and spark plug wire are properly connected. If the problem remains, contact TX PowerSports service for further assistance.

3	Starter Motor Not Cranking If the electrical system appears to be working but the starter motor does not crank, check the main fuse. The fuse is generally located at or near the battery connection.

4	Other Starting Issues For other starting problems that cannot be resolved using the checks above, contact the TX PowerSports service department for assistance.
